Description
Between the towns of Vila-seca and Salou and in the province of Tarragona, lies one of the largest and most iconic amusement parks in Spain, the magical PortAventura. Featuring six themed worlds (China, Polynesia, the Far West or Mexico and Sesame Adventure), the park has cutting-edge and exhilarating rides in each area.
While PortAventura started out as just a theme park 1995, that word no longer does it justice as it has undergone several renovations since its inception. Now you can discover a water park (Costa Caribe Aquatic Park), a golf course (Mediterránea Beach & Golf), a second theme park (Ferrari Land) and five themed hotels. It is worth taking a few days to thoroughly experience this entertainment empire!

PortAventura Rides
Shambhala, Himalayan expedition:
As one of the most famous PortAventura rides, Shambhala broke three records on the day it opened which it still holds: it is the highest rollercoaster in Europe, with the highest drop (78 meters) and reaches the highest speed of 134 km/h. With a name inspired by the highest and most dramatic mountains in the world, Shambhala is not for the faint hearted as it reaches 3.8 to -0.5 G forces.
Stampida
Considered one of the most traditional PortAventura rides without any loops or huge drops, Stampida is a classic rollercoaster. Built on a huge wooden base, it evokes the idea of a western wagon race; the rattling carriages follow different paths, turning off separately and then weaving in and out of each other. Take yourself back in time with this timeless rollercoaster!
Tutuki splash:
Feeling the heat in PortAventura? No problem! This attraction will quickly cool you off. Take a boat ride through the Polynesian forests of Polynesia and get on your swimsuit, because you are going to experience quite a splash!
Dragon Khan:
Dragon Khan is considered the crown jewel of all the PortAventura rides. Having opened with the park in 1995, it automatically became a symbol of European roller coasters, holding the record for the highest vertical loop at 36 meters. Although this record has now been broken, it remains an iconic symbol of the park. Beginning with a stomach lurching descent, Dragon Khan takes you on a journey of eight consecutive loops!
Hurakan Condor
As one of the more recent Portaventura rides which opened in 2005, Hurakan transports you more than 100 meters high on an Aztec tower. Found in the Mexico PortAventura area, this ride is covered in hieroglyphics and the name, Hurakan, symbolises the ritual sacrifice for God Hurakan. With incredible views of the whole theme park, you will rise to the top slowly yet some of the seats will be slightly tilted: will it be yours? Then, you will plunge into an abyss when you least expect it… can you handle the thrills, the uncertainty?

Shows
Although the PortAventura rides are the most famous features of the park, if you have enough time, stop by one of the PortAventura shows which have drawn inspiration from all over the world. In China, you can enjoy the theft of the Brothers Grimm, for example. Polynesia is a world of endless fun: be amazed by the skills of parrots and macaws, meet the Bora Bora Dancers, or live the 3D experience with your Ice Age friends! We have not forgotten about the children, who can enjoy the characters of Sesame Adventure in the children's area of the park.
