Having previously enjoyed an immensely successful run at the Almeida Theatre, the critically acclaimed theatrical production the Doctor is transferring to the Duke of York’s Theatre from April 2020! Starring the Olivier award-winning Juliet Stevenson, the Doctor is loosely based on Arthur Scnitzler’s 1912 play Professor Bernhadi and explores the prevalent issues around religion, medical ethics and identity politics.

Plot

In a private hospital, a young woman is critically ill with sepsis and her parents send a priest to deliver the last rites. When a priest arrives to bless her, the doctor who is treating her, senior physican Professor Ruth Woolf, refuses his entry. Triggering a huge battle between faith and medicine, the nation becomes deeply divided .

The Doctor Tickets

The Doctor tickets start at £18 and premium tickets are as expensive as £111.88. The Duke of York Theatre is a relatively small auditorium and has a capacity of 626 seats. The best seats in the house can be found in the mid centre of the Stalls opposite the stage. There are also excellent seats in the Royal circle which boast incredible panoramic views of the stage.

Cheap Tickets and Discounts

If you are looking for cheaper tickets then you can find them at the back of the theatre, slightly to the side in the Upper Circle. Although views are restricted in these seats, tickets are heavily discounted. The best seats at a reasonable price in the Duke of York’s theatre can be found in Row H.

Duke of York’s Theatre

Getting there

The Duke of York’s Theatre is located in the hub of London’s theatreland close to Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden. It is therefore very easy to access by public transport and can be reached by car. However, if you are travelling by car please be aware that the Duke of York’s Theatre is in the London Congestion Charge Zone which costs £11.50 between 7am and 6pm. The Duke of York’s Theatre address is:

Tube: Leicester Square tube station(Northern, Piccadilly) is the closest station to the Duke of York’s Theatre and is about a 5 minute walk away. Covent Garden (Picddadilly) and Charing Cross (Northern, Bakerloo) are also a short walk away from the theatre.

Bus: St Martin’s Place (Stop K) is very close to the Duke of York’s theatre and it serves bus routes 24, 29 and 176. Bus routes 3, 6, 9, 11, 12, 23, 53, 87, 88, 91, 139, 159 and 453 also all run through Trafalgar Square.

Car: the Duke of York’s Theatre is part of the Q-Park scheme which means that you can enjoy 50% off your parking ticket when you show it at the box office. Chinatown and Trafalgar Square are the nearest Q-Park car parks and are about a 10 minute walk away.

Access

There are also buy one get one free tickets for patrons and a companion. 

The most accessible entrance to the Duke of York’s Theatre is situated on St Martin’s Lane. It has step-free access from street to foyer. The drop off point if next to the entrance on St Martin’s Lane.

Inside the theatre

The Royal Circle has level access and two Wheelchair spaces. Staff are happy to assist with transfers but the Duke of York’s Theatre but it is advised that you bring a companion. Staff are also happy to store wheelchairs during the performance and also provide an at seat service. Please notify the Duke of York’s theatre beforehand and they can help navigate you throughout the theatre.
