Narrated by Coronation Street and Broadchurch star, Julie Hesemondalgh, The Greatest Play in the History of the World explores the depths of space, time and love through a beautiful sci-fi love story. Superbly written by her husband, Ian Kershaw, Hesemondalghs’s incredible performance leaves the audience feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
On the seemingly ordinary streets of Preston at 4.40am, Tom wakes up to find that time has stood still. Across the street, he sees a light on and meets eyes with his neighbour Sara, who is wearing an oversized Bowie t-shirt. Deciding to write a play called The Greatest Play in The History Of the World, his story - or his and Sara’s story- proceeds to take on multiple twists and turns.
Originally produced with the Royal Exchange in Manchester, The Greatest Play in the History of the World went on to perform sell-out shows at the Traverse Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018. Directed by Raz Shaw, this light and charming production comes to the West End’s Trafalgar Studios for six weeks, starting at the end of November 2019.
