Following a sell-out and highly successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019, the Shark is Broken comes to the Ambassadors Theatre in 2020. An extremely funny, alternative take on what happened behind the scenes of the Spielberg’s smash-hit blockbuster film Jaws, the Shark is Broken rattled and thrilled Edinburgh Fringe audiences and is set to storm the West End.
With critically acclaimed direction from Guy Masteron (12 Angry Men, Under Milkwood and Olivier Award winner for Morecomb) and presented by Sonia Friedman Productions, The Shark is Broken was written by Joseph Nixon and also Ian Shaw. Notably, Ian Shaw is the original film’s star Bob Shaw’s son, and he went to visit the film’s set in 1974, meeting the mechanical shark called Bruce. Inspired by the private diaries of Robert Shaw, the Shark is Broken stars Ian Shaw in his father’s role, alongside Demetri Goritasas (another original Jaws actor) and Liam Murray Scott.
For an unforgettable and truly unique theatrical experience, buy your theatre tickets in advance to avoid disappointment as the Shark is Broken is expected to be in extremely high demand!
Running time: 1 hour 10 mins (no interval)
Age recommendation: 12+
It is 1974, Cape Cod, and the filming of blockbuster hit Jaws has begun. However, the mechanical shark, Bruce, is broken. The three leading actors, Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss, are stuck on a boat and find themselves very frustrated by the terrible weather and the fact that the shark is not working. Following their conversations fuelled by alcohol, we learn about their artistic experiences and commercial successes.
The Shark is Broken tickets range from £18 to £60. Depending on where you choose to sit in the Ambassadors theatre, ticket prices vary greatly. The Ambassadors Theatre has a capacity of 410 seats and is divided into the Stalls and the Circle.
If you are looking for the best seats in the theatre, then these can be found in the centre of the Stalls, particularly between seats 6-12 in rows D-G which provide a special, intimate theatrical experience. There are also some excellent seats in the first two rows of the Circle. In general, as the auditorium is so small, there are not many seats with restricted viewing.
If you are looking for the Shark Is Broken cheap tickets, then these can be found at the back of the Circle, since this is the area of the theatre furthest away from the stage. However, these seats still havve excellent views of the stage despite being at a discounted price.
