Description

Shakespeare, Britain’s greatest playwright, is often thought to have lead a prosperous lifestyle whilst enjoying his theatrical success and fame. However, Upstart Crow, the hilarious critically acclaimed BBC comedy, comes to life on stage and reveals that Shakespeare isn’t quite the high-flying playwright we thought we knew...

First airing on BBC Two in 2016 as part of the commemorations of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Upstart Crow was written by the BAFTA award winning writer Ben Elton (The Young Ones, Black Adar) and directed by the current Birmingham Rep Artistic Director, Sean Foley. With the critically acclaimed comedian David Mictchell (The Peep Show, Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You) starring as a rather chaotic Shakespeare, Upstart Crow will undoubtedly be a hilarious evening of live comedy!

Running time: 1 hour 40 minutes
